Hiking Forest Park

One of the perks of being an Urban Day Hiker is you don’t have to go far (especially before work on Monday). Right in your own backyard is Queens, Forest Park, with 165 acres of trees (some over 150yrs old). It’s also home to the largest continuous oak forest in the borough.

Fun fact: the park used to be known as Brooklyn Forest Park before it became apart of Queens. The original vision was for there to be one giant park spanning from Brooklyns Prospect Park to Forest Park.

Forest Park has three trail options: Yellow Trail (1.0 miles), Blue Trail (1.7 miles) and Orange Trail (2.4miles)

The orange trail works its way around the outer perimeter of the park so the sound of traffic begins to pick up at certain points but passing through the Oak forest makes it worth it, The blue trail is a bit more centered in the park and can be made shorter if needed.

So get out and get inspired by nature and still make it home in time for some Netflix. We don’t judge =)
